[OPEN] Windows migrating to secondary display after screen lock

Post by MarquisMark »

There is an issue I've been trying to fix on ArcoB Cinnamon where windows that I have set on my primary display are moving to my secondary display after the screen has been locked for a longer amount of time.

In addition to configuring my monitors within the Cinnamon start menu, I've also followed the steps as laid out under the Archwiki Multihead page. Here is the contents of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf file:

Github also had a discussion of an issue with this at https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/issues/9659 and proposed a change to the cinnamon daemon. Below are the changes I made to ~/.config/autostart/cinnamon-settings-daemon-xrandr.desktop

Even with these changes, I'm always finding everything that I left on my main monitor over on my secondary one after unlocking, even my conky migrates over. Is this just a bug with Cinnamon or the Mutter WM? This isn't necessarily something that breaks my workflow, but it is annoying.

Any pointers would be helpful.

For reference here are the output of my inxi -Fz and xrandr.

Thank you.

Have you switched the cables between the monitors.
That is what I do sometimes if the os sets the main monitor to the right rather than to the left.

Yes, I had tried that initially before starting to change the configuration files.

When I turn my machine on. My login screen comes on secondary display (the DisplayPort). If I wait long enough, it will eventually show on the Primary as well (HDMI).

However, once I login, my conky and everything else shows on the Primary display as normal.

I am afraid it is a discomfort you have to live with.

You can consider not locking the screens so it does not happen and just let them sleep.

Okay, I will try that and see if windows don't move.

Thanks. In the meantime, I have unclicked the 'Disable automatic screen rotation' option in the Display settings. I will see if that does anything.

Yes and my understanding is that it's mostly a laptop/mobile feature that switches between landscape and portrait when taking pictures or reading something. There's probably more to it than that, though.

I saw in your video that you had turned it off and mine was on, so just gonna see if it does anything. Shouldn't be an issue anyways on desktop.

Of course, if it is an issue that I'm not seeing, please let me know lol
