[SOLVED] Firefox uses Thunar instead of Dolphin

Post by Bourbon » Sat Mar 23, 2019 2:34 pm

Hi All,

Firefox is my default browser (Chromium and Vivaldi not tested yet), downloading files it opens the folder using Thunar, how can tell it to use Dolphin (already default one in System Settings), please?

Are you on a Plasma system then?
What iso are you using?
Generally look for applications that define your default application.

Hi erikdubois,
Thank you for your kind answer but that's the point: Dolphin is already set as default file manager in System Settings as already I wrote in the first post of mine (see image).
Can say that Chromium uses Dolphin (Vivaldi not tested yet) but Firefox when clicking on the download window open the download folder using Thunar. Ciao

Choose an other filemanager.

Save.

And choose back dolphin.

And save again.

Test again.

Other solution in this link as well.

Think out of the box. Ubuntu tips can help you here.

Here you can set it on inode/directory.

It will go down the ordered list. Make sure dolphin is at the top.

Hi Erik,
I have been following your hint and also checked on the link
https://askubuntu.com/questions/2495/ho ... f-nautilus
files and directories don't match there, Ubuntu is different.
Trying again, I did:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/question ... -archlinux

I'd have a similar problem running Manjaro 4.18.9-1. After install nautilus for a test, firefox started to open folders with nautilus, I removed nautilus and firefox then opened folders with Atom.

At least for me, this solution worked:

Close firefox
Go to your file manager (Thunar in my case), right click on a folder and click on "open as"
Mark "use this app as default" and choose your file manager
Open firefox and see if it worked
>>> does'nt work on ArcoLinuxB Plasma here

Another one:
Firefox use GIO's GAppInfo. GIO's behaviour is slightly different from xdg-mime's. By adding inode/directory=dolphin.desktop in $HOME/.config/mimeapps.list, my firefox can open directory properly.

This one is my file:

Code: Select all

   [Added Associations]
image/jpeg=photoqt.desktop;
image/png=feh.desktop;photoqt.desktop;
inode/directory=org.kde.dolphin.desktop;kfmclient_dir.desktop;org.kde.cervisia.desktop;
video/mp4=vlc.desktop;

[Default Applications]
image/jpeg=photoqt.desktop;
image/png=photoqt.desktop;
inode/directory=org.kde.dolphin.desktop;   <<<<<<<<<<<
x-scheme-handler/http=firefox.desktop;
x-scheme-handler/https=firefox.desktop;
You can see Dolphin is there but still Thunar comes out
(Firefox is the default one)

Headache running now lol I stop here for today. Ciao

Did you ever delete thunar and see what happens then?

Hi Erik, I just removed Thunar, I didn't think I had to resort to the "final solution" to solve the problem :lol:
