[INFO] ArcoLinux Tweak Tool does not install all desktops

Post by erikdubois » Thu May 07, 2020 8:06 am

The ArcoLinux Tweak Tool is a very convenient tool to install desktops via a gui.

But a gui is just sending commands via a terminal. The command you will find on our cheatsheet.

https://arcolinux.info/documents-arcolinux/

Most of the 'lego-blocks' play nice together but some of them never will.

It is Arch Linux, who decides what gets installed and what will conflict. It is written in their PKGBUILDs.

Pacman will send you a message of conflicting files.

That is normal and it will only change if Arch Linux changes the packages and their pkgbuilds.

Basically YOU need to know what packages will always conflict.

There is a nice summary in the the ArcoLinux Welcome tool.

The ArcoLinux Tweak Tool gives you also a tip regarding Deepin.

If you want to install Deepin you do that first. And certainly not after budgie. There are two packages that need to be replaced. Arch Linux has a reason to replace one package with the other. Swapping one package with the other may result in unexpected results and instability of your desktop(s). It is you who will decide if you risk that. We will never hardcode that in the ATT.

Deepin can be installed via terminal.

Code: Select all

sudo pacman -S deepin deepin-extra
Then pacman will tell you which two packages are in conflict and will ask if you want to replace them with two others. We will never make that decision for you in the ATT. You decide that in the terminal.

Deepin can be installed but you need to do it in a terminal.

You decide if you want to replace these two packages. It may result in an unstable desktop(s). Budgie and Deepin conflict with each other.
