You can dim the brightness on a laptop. This is ArchMerge 6.1.1 Xfce
Pressing CTRL + ALT + M brings up the xfce settings manager then use powermanager to get the system tray icon

Here a screenshot on the same system with Openbox as DE.

and one on i3

See if you have keyboard shortcuts on your laptop to dim your screen.
Those keyboard shortcuts work.

Hi,
if I want to use keyboard shortcuts for brightness, on i3 and bspwm, I've installed brightnessctl from AUR and added instead xbacklight.

For i3

Code: Select all

bindsym XF86MonBrightnessUp exec --no-startup-id brightnessctl set 5%+ # increase screen brightness
bindsym XF86MonBrightnessDown exec --no-startup-id brightnessctl set 5%- # decrease screen brightness
For bspwm

Code: Select all

#Brightness up
XF86MonBrightnessUp
    brightnessctl set 5%+

#Brightness down
XF86MonBrightnessDown
    brightnessctl set 5%-
