[OPEN] How to install Nvidia dkms drivers and kernel modules

Post by AlienProber »

I installed Acro a couple of says ago to give it a run and see how it stacks up. Out of the gate I notice a huge performance increase over other Arch based distros, that EVERYTHING I wanted installed installed without a hitch, that on reboot frtom the time I press enter at the Acro Grub screen the boot is half of other Arch based systems. I have actually only run into one issue that I'm fairly sure is a Acro issue cause I haven't seen it in any other distro and that is being unable to access Cursors in system settings. I already have a thread here about it, and just in case I created a KDE bug report.

That said I would like to know how to go about installing the DKMS nVidia drivers and kernel modules in Acro. I have found rather Ubuntu based or Arched base the DKMS drivers always seem to work better. I installed AIMP using wine and when moving it it shakes and stutters. Under the DKMS it does not. So help getting them installed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you can find the issue with the cursors, that would be great.
We tested it back then on a virgin Arch Linux and got the same buggy result.

Nvidia related : Did you check our category.

I have no extended knowledge about Nvidia. I do not buy Nvidia graphical cards for a good reason.

That said I got in the possession of some borrowed computers and was able to make some videos with it.

Can't make any promises but I will push in the bug report and on the KDE forums for a fix, but I expect they will push back. As I stated though Acro is the first time I have run across the issue, I probably wouldn't care except that before being locked out of the cursors panel I selected the wrong cursors and now I'm stuck with ones I don't like, OOPs. Guess it's a small price to pay considering my overall happiness with the OS.

As for the drivers I'll check out the link you posted. Actually thinking of looking to see what ATI / AMD wise is equivalent to the nVidia 1650 GTX Super and put this in a media box I have all the parts for except a good video card. Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated.

Gui's just are front-ends.

all the files are in your ~/.config

search with the command 'pt' or the application 'catfish' or the search from Plasma 'kfind' to find all instances

Nvidia and DKMS

for this hardware

https://arcolinux.com/installing-the-of ... e-gtx670m/

I made this script

Code: Select all

tput setaf 3;echo " DO NOT JUST RUN THIS. EXAMINE AND JUDGE. RUN AT YOUR OWN RISK."
echo " THIS MAY BRICK YOUR SYSTEM"
echo " REUSE THE SCRIPT TO MAKE YOUR OWN SCRIPT"
tput sgr0

sudo pacman -S --noconfirm --needed linux-lts
sudo pacman -S --noconfirm --needed linux-lts-headers
sudo pacman -S --noconfirm --needed optimus-manager-qt
yay -S nvidia-390xx-dkms
yay -S nvidia-390xx-settings
yay -S nvidia-390xx-utils
echo "################################################################"
echo "#### packages uninstalled ######"
echo "################################################################"
There are the usual yes and no's along the way and then Linux lts and nvidia 390 work with optimus-manager-qt to regulate it all.

I'll have to find the instructions I had cause it's much easier to do than all that.

Great.

I have to find the saved instructions first. Been meaning to go through ALL the online tutorials that I've saved as PDF's and finally organize them.
