[OPEN] Open lid from suspend - empty yet functioning screen on Xfce

Post by Abstraction » Mon Dec 31, 2018 4:48 am

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55 laptop running XFCE. The problem is that when I open the lid after it has been in a suspended state, the screen is blank. The screen changes color to a blue when I begin to type. If I type my password in, I log in and all is well! Summary: I can't see the log-in when I open the laptop after sleep.

If I lock the laptop regularly (Super L) I can see the lock screen just fine; likewise starting the computer does not bring this issue. I've made changes to /etc/acpi/handler.sh probably for the worse after the problem arose. I didn't realize that if I put a backup of the file in the same folder that the backup file would be overwritten-- so I am not sure what it originally was (under button/lid) ).

I'm not sure what I could have done to bring it on, but I could really use a hand with this problem. Thanks Arco-community!

Here is the article about powermanagement.
https://arcolinux.com/how-and-where-to- ... r-manager/

Typing skel in terminal will put the standard settings back.
BUT
Do not know what other elements you changed.
You need to get back to the standard settings again.

Install on an other computer and compare.
Install on virtual box and compare.
Reinstall.

Update: I typed in skel and the problem remains. That said, if I go to 'XFCE Power Manager' and turn off the option for 'lock screen when system is going for sleep,' then thankfully, the screen shows without the issue. This helps refine the issue to power manager (I think) since the issue is exclusive to the situation. I'll look into it some more and see if I can find anything.

Problem Solved!

After turning off the XFCE Power Manager lock-screen setting and then following the instructions of TheWanderer a few posts down, I now have a properly functioning lock screen after suspend. Thanks you all!
