[OPEN] Laptop (Asus X555LJ) freezes when trying to connect to Wi-Fi network

Post by geduardcatalindev » Sun Dec 16, 2018 11:45 pm

Hi!

I have an Asus X555LJ (i3 5010U, 8GB DD3 1600MHz, nVidia GT920M) and I just installed ArcoLinux 18.12.7.
Install => Reboot => tried to connect to my private Wi-Fi network and as soon as I insert my password and click on the 'Connect' button, the laptop becomes completely unresponsive.
I have to mention that I use a Wi-Fi dongle since the laptop had an old Wi-Fi (+Bluethoot that never worked) card which is now removed from the board.

What could be the problem here?

See in dmesg or journalctl if you get any message concerning the hardware.

The kernel may still think the missing part is there.

The work "blacklist" comes to mind. See what part are and are NOT blacklisted.

See if the old card is found by the kernel.

It is going to take some research
