[SOLVED] Laptop screen doesn't display an image

Post by Kncklcht »

Hi,

I'm getting a black screen on my laptop's integrated monitor after installing Arco.
Connecting an external monitor works fine - though I want to be able to use my laptop without one.

This is the link to my hardware info: https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=6a3838990

I ran into the same problem on plain Arch, though I didn't encounter it on Manjaro (but I don't want to use that).

The problem exists both in the TTYs and in Xorg.
Neither picking the appropriate video drivers in the "advanced installer", nor letting the "newbie installer" pick the drivers itself fixed my problem.

During installation I was able to circumvent the problem by choosing the "safe graphics, nomodeset" option in GRUB and my integrated monitor worked just fine.

Using "nomodeset" on its own doesn't solve my problem after rebooting into the installed OS.
What does "safe graphics" contain that may solve my problem after installing the OS?

If that does not work

Code: Select all

sudo pacman -S xf86-video-intel
and reboot

Search on the internet "arch linux HD Graphics 620" and see what they say.

and think out of the box

Oh, ok - didn't know the "hardware probe" also listed my packages.
I ran the probe on the live USB stick.

When I ran both the regular Arch install, aswell as the Arco install,
I installed the intel video drivers aswell as the microcode package (xf86-video-intel, intel-ucode)
and no other drivers.

That's what I did on my first installation attempts.

I tried it again and it worked now. Maybe some package got updated in the meantime or picking the LTS kernel did the trick.

Thanks for your effort to maintain this distro - I appreciate it!

Can you give us another probe link so future users can see the before state and the after state and try to do the same?
