I booted my Dell Inspiron XPS 15-7559 with Arcolinux 19.04 by adding the string below to the boot line after hitting Tab to edit the line from the boot screen.
After installing what I would like to do is being able to use both (Intel HD Graphics 630 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 w/ Optimus or PRIME or Bumblebee) and if not at least use NVIDIA. I see yours has only NVIDIA.

I don't do much graphics intensive work.

The games I play are simple stuff, but I have a 4k 43 inch big screen for it to drive with its HDMI video output.

As long as it's good enough for Pac Man or Galaxians, I'll be happy. I don't know what mide its going to use.

I backed up the windows and made a rescue boot for it, and tested it. I cleaned up unused files from the windows drive. I defragmented it and then reduced its partition size smaller but with a good safety margin . I loaded the root of my main Linux system and a swap drive equal to memory size onto the ssd in the freeed up space .

That is how my dell i7-7559 was loaded.

Take safety precautions, i am not responsible for your machine, and i don't know anything about it.

Sad to say I use DFU or DBU (its improved clone) many days, still.

Small world, huh?

I'm not allowed to use the Lin*x word at work. I call it QSH, LOL. They don't know.

Try adding to your boot line:

Code: Select all

acpi_osi=! acpi_osi=Windows i915.preliminary_hw_support=1
Ok. So news on this:

I added to the USB at G:\loader\entries (my USB drive on Windows is G:):

Code: Select all

options archisobasedir=arch archisolabel=alb-gnome-v19.04.4-x86_64 acpi_osi=! acpi_osi=Windows i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 locale=pt_PT keytable=pt driver=free noveau.modeset=1 i915.modeset=1 systemd.show_status=1
Add a problem with by-label and just change

Code: Select all

archisolabel=alb-gnome-v19.04.4-x86_64
by

Code: Select all

archisolabel=ALB-GNOME-V
and it boots smoothly.

Installed. Reboot. It boots with no problem.

Now start another problem:
  • LightDM allows me to login.
  • It starts to load Gnome and blocks.
  • On login when trying to reboot it freezes too.

How would you suggest partitioning the 2 drives for best performance? What sizes/configuration for the various directories?
What I did was use the SSD for the partitions:
- boot EFI (there's where Windows 10 stored it too)
- Windows
- /boot
- / (where programs are)

The rest goes to the HDD:

- Windows Data
- /home
- /var

Did this because SSD is faster and I want Apps to run faster. The /temp used by several programs to process data (like video, etc) is at SSD too.
