The only 2 things I can think of:

1. The way HP partitioned the drive in the first place. They have hidden restore partitions and stuff on it. Could be why Linux don't recognize it

2. The SSD drive is not supported by linux

do you know what kind of SSD it is? You should be able to get that info in the bios or in windows itself.

Just go to my pc, right click on your SSD and click properties, then the hardware tab. it should give you the name. Like the screenshot I provided below.

as you can see mine is a Samsung 860 EVO

Hello NickPetrov,

Thank you so much for taking interest. I uploaded the image you asked on imgur.

This is the laptop that I have.

I think what might be a problem is this, its an HP Envy laptop but the reseller CUK(Customer Upgrade King) buys an HP Laptop and then upgrades it with a few modifications. Like
1. RAM Upgrades
2. New SSD with Windows 10 installation on it.
Which also might come with some propreitary software on it for the SSD (Not sure about this just guessing)

Edit:
Just After I wrote the above response I found something in the Arcolinux forums
NVMe drivers and installation
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=575&sid=c923883a27 ... 8c34b28991

I might be facing this issue because my SSD is NVMe

Thankyou profusely

Regards

some nvme drives can be problematic in linux. But check in your bios if you have any sata settings. If you do make sure its set on ahci and not raid

Hello NickPetrov,

I made a google slide to show my UEFI config for my drives. From my disks only the HDD is AHCI but the SSD is NVMe. Do we need special drivers in linux for NVMe ? Is there another procedure for the NVMe SSD's ? Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this ?

What I would do is the following, before I would assume the brand of nvme drive is not supported by linux

1. Check which version your bios is
2. Goto HP support page and make sure you have the latest bios. If not flash it in windows
3. Make sure secure boot is turned off in the bios.
4. If there was a new bios then try ArcoLinux install again, to see if recognized
5. If not recognized I would download Ubuntu 18.04, and use the live iso and see if it recognizes it, just to eliminate "Arch Linux" Kernel of having the problem

If none of the above work, I would probably assume that the brand of nvme drive you are using, the linux kernel may not have the firmware for that particular drive. The real other way would be to try another brand.

OR I would just install linux on the non nvme drive, and use the nvme for windows only.

Thats about all I can help you with

Hello NickPetrov,
I put a Ubuntu LiveUSB and ran Gparted. The Ubuntu live USB also did not detect the NVMe SSD. So I come to the conclusion that this Linux Kernel does not have the required drivers for this particular SSD.

Thanks and Regards
