We can get an rough idea how good or how bad our hardware performs on Linux (or other operating systems) by testing them and comparing them with other hardware.

I have choosen to use geekbench as it will provide me points on my system, a url that is uploaded to their website and then I can compare with other hardware out there.

Good benchmark for system is memtest that ware sometimes available with bootables, if it could just have system for HDD.
Processor is not that of an issue, if you've got fast memory it can talk a lot without fast processor.
