I did enough searching to contact technical support. They sent this with modifications I made to make it work:
sudo pacman -S cups cups-pdf
sudo pacman -S foomatic-db-engine
sudo pacman -S foomatic-db foomatic-db-ppds foomatic-db-nonfree-ppds foomatic-db-gutenprint-ppds
sudo pacman -S ghostscript gsfonts gutenprint
sudo pacman -S libcups
sudo pacman -S system-config-printer
sudo systemctl enable org.cups.cupsd.service
Check if “multilib” is not commented out.
Open “/etc/pacman.conf” in the text editor.
Please check if lines from “[multilib]” to “Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist” are not commented out.
If these lines are commented out, please delete “#”, and then save that, and then execute the following command.
[Command] pacman -Syy
Check if the following items are installed.
lib32-glib2
cups
ghostscript
gsfonts
cups-pdf
poppler
a2ps
If these items are not installed, please install these items.
[Command] pacman -S lib32-glib2 cups ghostscript gsfonts cups-pdf poppler a2ps
Start “CUPS”.
[Command] systemctl start org.cups.cupsd.service
[Command] systemctl enable org.cups.cupsd.service
Please connect MFC-J450DW to PC with USB or Wired LAN/Wireless LAN.
- That's where I ignored 12 lines and unzipped the installer package, made the install script executable, ran it as root, and the installer did it's thing.
Should this be useful, here it is.

Re: [INFO] Brother MFC-J450DW Installed
Thanks. I'll see if I can't develop that sense of things. Odd the boys at Brother couldn't think of that ...
I'll try it since 20.9.2 is installing whereas .1 was giving me serial grief. I'll let you know.

That's a negatory on the AUR. Had to do it the Brother way.
Now we know.

Re: [INFO] Brother MFC-J450DW Installed
You're welcome. It was the dependencies requiring installation, of course. Main thing - it works.
