[SOLVED] update-mirrors.service slows down the boot

Post by eesau »

I ran systemd-analyze and systemd-analyze blame after booting up and it gave me this:

Code: Select all

31.858s update-mirrors.service
So, that service takes huge amount of time in every boot (checked it 4-5 times). I suppose it shouldn't do that. Anyway, I disabled it and it did the trick, but i guess the mirrors doesn't update automatically anymore? What's the best way to deal with that now?

EDIT: It doesn't have to be automatic though.

No it does not. Otherwise I would NOT have created it. After 8 seconds I have my desktop as usual.

The number of seconds you see is how long it takes for the script to finish and get the new Arch Linux servers in.

You can test this by disabling the service.

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl disable update-mirrors.service
And time again with a timer.

To measure is to know.

Conclusion
the measurement means nothing about the speed you boot up

Sorry, my bad, it wasn't that. Made wrong conclusions.

The boot was quite slow though, it hanged in black screen at some point every time. Then i played with things, disabled that service and put autologin on and got it much faster. But now i've set everything back as it was and it's still fast. Go figure.
