[OPEN] MTP seems broken

Post by gpunk »

Hi

I see that mtp, aka accessing files on USB "phones", doesn't work ...

I have a Samsung s10, android 10, that is accessible under other OSs, but not from ArcoLinux .

Any ideas ?

Thank you

It is what lets you transfer files from PCs to Android phones for example,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Transfer_Protocol

It is another way of accessing files like USB-Storage can let you do, but usually with an active OS on the other side, not just "dumb" USB-keys , "dumb" as a "dumb-terminal" that is.

Please consider this as fixed, it must has been a bug at first connection/authorization, because now it works fine . 8-)

Thank you :)

Eric: MTP is a particular file protocol or transfer protocol typically used in phones, mp3 players, or other mobile devices connected to a computer.

Possible solution that works for me (and I'm using Arcolinux Plasma with a Samsung Note 9 phone and Samsung Tab 3 tablet):

I can access both devices for files and photos using KDE Connect and Dolphin file manager (other file managers might work but that's what works for me).

If you are in a GTK-based or XFCE-based environment, there might be other variables that will work.

Note that I have never been able to get these things working reliably when physically connected via USB cable, but that's an issue I've had on every Linux system I've ever tried it on, especially with Samsung devices.

Good luck.
