At last; a full installation!

Hello to all.
A new user here of Arcolinux-xfce4 after using Xubuntu or other *ubuntu versions for the past 14 years with great success.
However, I wanted to try an Arch distro but found the "real" Arch too much of a palaver to deal with, so having now lost the antergos that I tried and has now been withdrawn, and which became unbootable, I came across Arcolinux

I tried it as a live system and was amazed how simple it was to use, so made a full install So far I have found Arcolinux to be extremely stable, and in spite of needing to relearn some csommand line usage, it has been very easy to use, with the ability to use sudo in the same way as I do in the ubuntu OSs making it even more easy for me.

Congratulations and a huge thank you to the developers of this Arch derivative, making one of the more difficult distros so simple to install and use.

At present I am using Xubuntu and Arcolinux on a dual boot laptop, and all is grand; hopefully it will remain so and I will continue to use this wonderful distro.

Thanks for your welcoming comments.

However, so soon after that glowing comment from me, I now have a problem, possibly self generated.

After my last shutdown where all was totally normal, at my next boot was to the fallback version in grub, just to see what difference there was.
That all seemed the same as usual, the system booting exactly as I expected and using the same kernel as a normal boot.
Unfortunately the next boot failed completely with a kernel panic and the only way forward was a hard shutdown using the power button. The fallback boot still works fine, and an fsck filesystem check from another system, my Xubuntu in dual boot, has had no effect, nor has a reinstallation of the kernel.

Was I just unlucky booting to the fallback version from grub; surely that should not cause this sort of problem?

This is your welcoming post.

If you require further help, we need more info.
It is not clear what you did.

Retrace your steps is our way to start analyzing.
And my advice is still ... one distro per ssd or harddisk

This has saved me sooooooooooooooo much time and no more frustrations.

Make a new post elsewhere in the forum.

Thanks.

I would have started a new thread but decided to get rid of the dual boot with Xubuntu-18.04 and give the laptop over completely to Arcolinux which is now working brilliantly again. Still a few tweaks to do to get it looking as I want but otherwise all is good.
I even managed to save a lot of palaver and time downloading all the updates again by copying all the pacman cache and copying it over to the new install.

Thanks for a great distro; I'll be popping in to the forum quite a lot to find details of how best to do things.

Great to hear that you have decided to work with just one linux distro per ssd.
Best choice ever.

Enjoy ArcoLinux.
