[SOLVED] Global clipboard in dwm

Post by mra07 »

I've been using arcolinux dwm for quite a while and was wondering how to install a global clipboard for the environment, let me explain what I mean: If you use ubuntu it is possible to copy something into the clipboard, close the program where you copy the text from and paste it in any other program. In dwm this isn't possible, if you close the program the copied text goes along with it. So how can this clipboard behavior be done in dwm?
Thanks in advance.

I just noticed what's going on.
First, this post should be under the ArcoLinuxB category, I tought it was part of ArcoLinuxD because the articles describing it are in arcolinuxd.com, sorry about that.
Second, the default installation contains a .desktop file in ~/.config/autostart that mentions the xfce4-clipman-plugin (which is the xfce4 clipboard manager) yet, it isn't installed, and upon installing it won't execute. However, this isn't an issue regarding xfce4-clipman, but a system-wide issue (the .desktop files are not executed). I solved the problem by editing the dwm autostart file in ~/.config/arco-dwm/autostart.sh by adding the following lines:

Code: Select all

# Execute the .desktop and .sh files in ~/.config/autostart
if [ -d  "$HOME/.config/autostart/" ]; then
  for file in $HOME/.config/autostart/*; do
    # .desktop files
    if [[ $file ==  *.desktop ]]; then
      dex "$file"
    fi
    # .sh files
    if [[ $file == *.sh ]]; then
      bash "$file"
    fi
  done
fi
After adding those lines xfce4-clipman executed correctly and got a global clipboard :)

Dex is the application to launch .desktop files.
