[OPEN] amdgpu on laptop: hybrid graphics

Post by gpunk »

Hi there,
Since recent updates,
The prime offloading doesn't work correctly with openGL applications on my amdgpu installation:

it is an Acer nitro 5 515-42 -- all AMD: AMD gpu, amd CPU , that never had this issue before,

it has a ryzen/raven apu, and a polaris (RX560) dGPU

glxinfo shows the RAVEN ( internal GPU)

DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo shows the POLARIS descete GPU,

all ok,

DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears run only off of the raven GPU, not good :(

xrander shows both cards just fine, and vulkan applications run off of the RX560 , very good.

To confirm my feelings I installed mangohud that confirmed this thing.

whether with glxinfo or other openGL applications like games, the hud shows that it is the raven being used, confirmed by the temperature of the chips displayed: CPU and GPU have the same temperature, and the power usage is at zero Watts.

The weirdest thing in this case is that I can see the RX560 powering up by doing a cat on : /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

So: The dGPU powers up, is beeing used succefully with vulkan applications but not openGL applications.

Any clues ? because I am clueless ! :|
