[OPEN] Nvidia Optimus & automatic installation

Post by beckett »

Is it possible you might adopt the automatic nvidia installation that is offered with Manjaro? I realize you have references to numerous support articles on how to manually install the nvidia drivers, but I think this is a valued feature. ArcoLinux is moving up in popularity on Distro Watch and think this might help widen support to those who would like to see this issue in their rear view mirror with Linux in general.

With the latest stable build here are the step I needed:
1. Install Arco on the laptop with hybrid gaphics making sure select the Nvidia + Linux Kernel
2. Install optimus-manager
3. enable optimus-manager service via systemd
4. start optimus-manager service via systemd
5. type optimus-manager --set-startup nvidia
6. reboot

You now have nvidia online and active.

Small addition!
Install the "correct" nvidia driver. Not all laptops 2019 model year.
My goal is a Linux laptop no worse than a MacBook.

Hi,
After to update last optimus-manager (from 1.2.2 to 1.3.1) and optimus-manager-qt, system failed to boot (freeze just after to systemd start).
II was able to boot from USB live arcolinux, then arch-chroot my root directory file system, then systemd isole multi-user.terget to start without X11.
Next to this, only remove optimus-manager was able to fix the problem.
Downgrade was not possible (no other choice than the last version updated).
Well... i really would like to be happy to use optimus-manager again without pain with loosing an half day.
I use Nvidia GTX-1660Ti GPU and intel i7. Intel CPU used for screen monitors, ang Nvidia (from proprietary nvidia driver) used for any required stuff (like with blender).

I don't know why the last nasty update break things around optimus-manager. Maybe just a configuration has been trashed by the update or a new feature in config file to add, or... who know ?
Please if you know something with that, inform, share.
