[SOLVED] Alt-left/right not working as in other DEs

Post by vcaselli » Sat Dec 28, 2019 1:18 am

I am using ArcoLinuxB with Deepin, but observed the following problem also with other Arch-based distros like Manjaro, again with Deepin.

In Firefox Alt-Left / Alt-Right are not working as expected, that is, after having clicked on a link and reached the target page, you can go back to the link with Alt-Left and then forward with Alt-Right (in applications like Eclipse this is a very useful feature for navigating among the code editors).
This behavior is also available in Windows and in other Linux distros like Ubuntu or CentOS.
Alt-Up/Down instead are working right (in Eclipse they allow to move lines of code up/down): so it's not a matter of Alt not recognized.

On ArchlinuxB I also tried other DEs and this is the result:
Xfce, Deepin: not working
Mate, Openbox, Budgie: working

I have difficulties in understanding if the problem is related to Arch (and to the fact that this key combination seems to be reserved for switching to previous/next Virtual Console
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Li ... _shortcuts)
or if it's related to the Deepin/Xfce keyboard bindings.

I already checked in Deepin Control Center, Shortcuts, but there is not any of them mapped.
I already checked also all the gsettings, but didn't find any hint.
Any hint?

Thank you very much in advance
Vincenzo

Alt right and Alt left is our way to change the wallpaper in variety

so delete the keyboard shortcuts in deepin and it should work again.

Hi, I'm having this issue too!

Seems like some component update was the problem, and restarting the computer was the fix.

Well, not that easy I'm afraid ..
Indeed I recently reinstalled Arcolinux B Deepin from scratch and one of the first thing I did was removing Variety Alt-Left/Right shortcuts.
Right after I tested it with Firefox and Eclipse: all was working!

Now, after some day, these shortcuts are not working again!
(restarting the computer doesn't solve the problem for me)

I do not have Variety (uninstalled it from the beginning) and checked again in the shortcuts: all seems ok, but still it doesn't work.

I come from Manjaro Deepin where this was happening also there without Variety and its shortcuts remapping.
Really cannot understand what is messing up these shortcuts (in Eclipse ALt-Up/Down are still working..)

Any hint is welcome

Get rid of the package that contains the shortcuts.

IF you do a SKEL, you will get our shortcuts back.

If you did not do a SKEL, there you have to dig further.

but I have no idea of which package contains the shortcuts. How can I spot the package?
Deepin Control Center shows a list of all shortcuts, but those ones are not in this list (after installation they were there because of Variety, but I removed them)

sorry Erik, but I don't understand; is SKEL a command? what I should do?
Thank you

Ok Erik, I opened a teminal and typed skel.
Then the icon theme changed to the default, along with many other settings in Control Center.
Then I logged out/in again and the icon theme and other settings were mostly back!

Indeed I found again the Variety shortcuts Alt-left/right, so I removed them and .. the shortcuts were working again in Eclipse!! :D

So now it's all right, thank you!!
But (just out of curiosity) is there a way to understand which package is remapping a shortcut without seeing it on Control Center/Shortcuts ?

Nope,
after an update the shortcuts are lost again.. (recap: variety is not installed and Control Center / Shortcuts does not show a remapping of these shortcuts).
Any hint on how to detect which package may interfere with a given shortcut?
Thank you very much
Vincenzo

if you do skel, all the old settings are back in.

Is that what you are doing?
