Don't feel bad. All in all, based on 20+ years of using and losing Linux, almost all new installs were better than the "old" one.

I have a password protected 7zip text file. To read it, I enter the password and then it opens in SublimeText. Once done, I close SublimeText and shut down the system. Open your Settings Manager > LightDM Gtk+Greeter Settings and see if the user image check box is checked and if yes, is the default user icon showing?

Update! Here is the fix! When I moved FreeCAD to the second monitor which is a 28" 4K display, the UI font became noticeably larger but still too small to work.
